Immigrant and Refugee Contributions
Awards and Education Series Overview

Immigrant and Refugee Contributions is an awards and educational series introduced by Changing Worlds to recognize the valuable contributions immigrants, refugees and their children are making to the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs.

The first of its kind in the city, the series strives to:

Create awareness
Foster positive human relations
Dispel stereotypes
Enhance cross-cultural understanding
Provide role models for Chicago’s youth

This series focuses on identifying and honoring contributions made in the following fields: community and civic leadership, sports and entertainment, the arts, entrepreneurial and corporate leadership and education. An honoree is chosen in each category through a public nomination process overseen by a selection committee comprised of community leaders.

Chicago is truly a global city, home to one of the largest and most diverse immigrant populations in the country. The Immigrant and Refugee Contributions Awards and Educational series demonstrates why one of Chicago’s greatest strengths is its diversity.

The Spirit of Chicago is found in tolerance, mutual respect and active pride in our highly diverse ethnic, racial and religious heritage. As different as we are, we are all proud to call ourselves Chicagoans.” – Mayor Richard M. Daley
