For Lucy Ascoli, Changing Worlds" board vice president of resource development, children are the heart of the program. "I was introduced to Changing Worlds through the Hibbard School project the beautiful photos and the powerful stories translated into many languages. The idea that children can affirm their identity and learn about other cultures is a wonderful gift," says Lucy. "To go to a public school and see children proudly telling their stories is very gratifying to me."
Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, and Maplewood, New Jersey, as the daughter of an immigrant and the daughterinlaw of a political refugee, Lucy knew immigrant stories firsthand. As a consultant to nonprofit organizations, she has worked with a number of immigrant organizations, including the Ethiopian Association of Illinois and the Cambodian Association of Illinois. She serves on the advisory committee of the Cambodian American Heritage Museum and Holocaust Memorial.
Her role as a board member gives her an opportunity to learn and expand her experience. "Changing Worlds has grown tremendously in a short time. Together, the board and staff have achieved an impressive list of accomplishments. We are developing longrange goals and positioning the organization for the future. I am gratified to work with a board of very dedicated, diverse and talented people who are committed to creating the very best for Changing Worlds."
