The fabric of Galileo School, led by Mr. Valterra, is a multiethnic patchwork of 11 different cultures celebrated through sharing family histories and traditions. Galileo School is a member of the Changing Worlds’ Literacy and Cultural Connections School partnership network. In its second year, all Galileo teachers have participated in professional development provided by Changing Worlds, and numerous classrooms have taken part in the intensive, in-class, 15-session program component. According to the principal,Mr. Valtierra, "Students learn to embrace the differences in fellow classmates. With a diverse pupil population that is56 percent Hispanic, 25 percent African American, 16 percent Caucasian, 2 percent Asian and 1 percent Native American, our students have built a community by understanding each other’s history and embracing their differences.”
